NatureHolic PureAlgae Mix, a high-quality algae powder made from spirulina , chlorella , Schizochytrium , and Ascophyllum , is a supplementary food for ornamental fish , shrimp, mussels, and snails . It consists of 100% natural algae . We’ve created a powerful mix from four different valuable algae, ideal for your filter-feeding and biofilm-eating fish, shrimp, snails, crayfish, crabs, and mussels in the aquarium. NatureHolic PureAlgae Mix is also perfect as a rearing food for algae-eating fry , especially juvenile shrimp , for breeding filter-feeding live foods from brine shrimp to daphnia, and for supplementing the diet of your corals in saltwater aquariums . Furthermore, our NatureHolic PureAlgae Mix is a valuable ingredient for anyone who wants to make their own food sticks or flakes for their aquarium animals.
The blue-green alga Spirulina platensis is rich in protein and contains essential vitamins and minerals , especially carotenoids, which can enhance the coloration of fish, crustaceans, crabs, and shrimp. The green alga Chlorella is also rich in carotenoids, contains plenty of natural plant protein , and also important unsaturated fatty acids.
The single-celled Schizotrychium microalgae provide the valuable fatty acids EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid).
Ascophyllum nodosum , the knotted wrack, belongs to the brown algae and is particularly rich in iodine and other essential micronutrients such as iron, calcium, potassium, manganese, zinc, B vitamins, and valuable alginates, which are used for wound healing and to soothe the stomach.
For juvenile fish and filter feeders in the aquarium – for example, fan shrimp, filter-feeding snails of the genera Brotia, Filopaludina, Viviparus, piano snails, etc., and of course for mussels – mix one to two pinches of NatureHolic PureAlgae Mix with a little aquarium water. Spray this mixture carefully and precisely towards your filter feeders using a pipette or a syringe without a needle. Also suitable as a plant-based food source for corals in saltwater aquariums!
NatureHolic’s PureAlgae Mix also creates a uniform, ultra-fine feeding carpet for algae-eating snails – such as Neritina, Vittina, and other nerite snails – as well as for algae-eating catfish , shrimp , and especially juvenile shrimp in the aquarium . Simply sprinkle some algae powder onto the aquarium water. Turn off the filter when the powder begins to sink to prevent it from being sucked back in.
You can also make algae stones for herbivores using NatureHolic PureAlgae Mix . Simply mix the algae powder with a little water and spread the resulting paste onto smooth stones. Let the coated stones dry, then place one or two in the aquarium with the herbivores for them to graze on. These algae stones are ideal for feeding wild-caught snails like nerite snails, horned nerite snails, and limpets immediately after introducing them to the aquarium. They are also excellent for supplementing the diet of corals in saltwater aquariums and for breeding live food.
