AxolotlFeed – Axolotl special food

To create NatureHolic AxolotlFeed, specifically tailored to the needs of axolotls, we pored over studies and researched the optimal protein content for axolotl food, the digestibility of various protein sources, the influence of probiotics on the health and development of these fascinating salamanders, and the importance and palatability of different oils. We also further developed and optimized the food in our own axolotl breeding facility. 

An incorrect diet can lead to severe digestive problems in axolotls, even intestinal obstruction. Many generic dry foods are not only far too hard and can cause micro-injuries in the sensitive mouths of these amphibians, but they also often contain too many plant-based ingredients or cheap fillers, which can cause serious problems. Feeding live food can also be detrimental to axolotls – depending on how the live food was raised and fed, it may be contaminated or contain too few nutrients, especially trace elements and vitamins.

In formulating NatureHolic Soft AxolotlFeed, we based our approach on the axolotl’s natural diet and took great care to use only animal proteins derived from insects and aquatic animals. These are particularly easy for axolotls to digest. Our LT fishmeal is produced using a special, gentle manufacturing process and is therefore highly digestible. A small amount of algae simulates the intestinal contents of the axolotl’s prey, which are predominantly vegetarian or omnivorous.

The soft food kibble is readily accepted. It is easy to swallow and provides a feeding experience similar to that in nature. Furthermore, the soft consistency of our tasty axolotl food protects the sensitive mouth and soft throat of the axolotls from micro-injuries during swallowing. Thanks to the exceptional digestibility of NatureHolic AxolotlFeed, we significantly reduce the pollution of the water in the axolotl aquarium caused by undigested food.

The Arctic LT fishmeal we use for NatureHolic Axolotl Feed is dried at significantly lower temperatures to preserve nutrients . This low-temperature process also results in a much lighter color than conventional, cheaper, lower-quality fishmeal. This LT fishmeal therefore carries the LT71 label. It boasts a protein content of over 70% , a very favorable amino acid profile, and, thanks to the special treatment, a digestibility of 94 to 96%. This makes LT fishmeal an excellent choice for your axolotls.  Its digestibility and reduction in waste volume are far superior to those of conventional fishmeal.

We have also added prebiotic, highly bioavailable mannan-oligosaccharides and beta-glucans to our NatureHolic Axolotl Feed to protect the sensitive intestinal lining and support the important gut flora. Furthermore, we are again using our proven NatureHolic vitamin and trace element mix and are also simulating the intestinal contents of the feeder animals with Chlorella algae, which at the same time make a further contribution to the supply of vital fiber, minerals and trace elements.
